Message From The Principal

A common phrase around this time of year is, "Love is in the air!" Here at Bowers, we're changing that to, "Learning is in the air!" Our students and staff are working diligently to make learning a priority at Bowers Elementary School, and we continue to be proud of their efforts and gains. Keep up the good work!

What's going on at Bowers?

Valentine's Dance Party

In an effort to raise money for her high school music class and their performances, Mrs. Taylor will be hosting a "Valentine's Dance Party" for Bowers Elementary and Walnut Hill 4th and 5th graders. The party will be held on Thursday, February 11, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. The cost to attend is $5.00 which pays for admission and snacks. Ms. Lovin will be taking photos for $1.00 per person in each photo that wants a copy of the photo. Mrs. Taylor has orchestrated this party for the students for the past few years, and each year, the students have a blast! We look forward to your child's attendance at this party. Parents are welcome to stay, chaperone, and dance!

We're Cookin' Up a Cure

Our Relay for Life team has been hard at work to help our school "Cook up a Cure" for cancer. Current events sponsored by the team include a cookbook and bracelet sale. The cookbooks consist of recipes submitted by Bowers staff and students. Ms. Emily Henderson collected and organized the cookbook. The cost of each cookbook is $5.00, a great deal for over 75 pages of recipes. Bracelets may be purchased at the office for $1.00 each. Continue to look for notes and information coming home for different events throughout the year leading up to the Relay for Life marathon. Cancer is something that has affected each of us in some way. We need to do our part to raise awareness and support cancer research. Thank you for helping us with our Relay for Life efforts.

New Curriculum Standards for 2009-2010

If you are interested in viewing the new curriculum standards for the 2009-2010 school year, please visit the following website: Tennessee Curriculum Standards. There you will find the curriculum standards that will be used as a guide for your child's education, as well as other documents used by Tennessee schools. One document worth reviewing is the Academic Vocabulary. It contains the terms that your child should be able to use and define at the end of each grade level.
